Waterkotte Memorial
Scholarship Winner

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for your support of
my college education. I graduated from
The Pennsylvania State University with
a bachelor's in chemical engineering in
May 2007. After graduation I moved to Houston, TX. I currently am a production engineer for Rhodia. As a production engineer at this sulfuric acid plant, I work daily with our operators and maintenance men of the United Steel Workers Local
13227. I work on improvement projects
and daily operational issues as well as cost
savings projects. In the beginning of 2009,
I will be moving to our Baltimore, MD
plant to work as a production engineer.
Also in 2009, I will be getting married.

As I continue my career as an engineer
I will be always thankful for the support
of your council as well as that of my
parents, Bob and Kathy Osterrieder,
and grandparents, Tom (Local 211) and
Mary Lou Naughton.

Dear Mr. Brooks:

I am enclosing a copy of Penn State Engineering Magazine that features an article with our daughter Amy. Last summer she was selected for an internship in northern France to work for a company that manufactured polyvinyl chloride. The experience that she gained has helped her to procure a paid internship this summer with Exxon Mobile Corporation in Fairfax, VA. Amy is working toward a chemical petroleum engineering degree and we are very excited that such a prestigious company has selected her.

We are extremely proud of her accomplishments after only two years of college and I wanted to share this with you. The Waterkotte Scholarship has been very helpful in fulfilling her and has lessened the financial burden that a college education places on every family today.

Our family and especially Amy want to thank the Carpenters Organization and the Waterkotte family for their recognition and financial support.

Sincerely,

Alan F. Meyers
