Applications are taken every Wednesday from 10-5 for the Carpenter, Floor Coverer, Heavy Highway, Lathers, Millmen, Millwright and Pile Driver Apprenticeships. Call the Training Center nearest you for the exact dates applications are being accepted. In addition, Heavy Highway accepts applications for their Apprenticeship in March of each year. Please refer to the dates below for the additional application dates for Heavy Highway.
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS:
- 18 years of age
- High school graduate or hold the equivalent GED
- Must be physically capable of performing the work of the trade
- Must have a valid PA driver's license and suitable transportation
- Must be available for full-time employment when called by a
union official

At the time of application, a non-refundable processing fee of
$25.00 will be required and a written test will be administered.
As
part of the final selection process, the applicant will be responsible
for the expense of a physical by a doctor of his/her choice and
a drug test by a drug testing laboratory chosen by the Joint Apprentice
Committee. In addition, random drug tests may be conducted at
any time while in the Apprenticeship Program.
ATTITUDE
FACTORS:
- Must indicate interest, desire, and willingness to learn;
- Genuine interest in the trade as opposed to just looking for
a job;
- Sense of responsibility for performance, materials, safety;
- Ability to work with others as part of a crew;
- Positive attitude towards school - must see it as an opportunity,
not just a requirement.

MOBILITY:
Opportunities in construction depend heavily upon the ability
of the individual to travel throughout the area of union jurisdiction
to wherever workers are needed.
