What do cabinetmakers and millworkers do?
Cabinetmakers perform work in the areas of customized and specialized
woodwork. They cut, shape and assemble wood products, including moldings,
panels and furniture. Cabinetmakers construct, install and repair architectural
woodwork, fixture work, display and exhibit work and cabinet work.
Cabinetmakers study blueprints and architectural designs. Then they
select specified materials, prepare layouts, shape and cut materials
and assemble the designs. Cabinetmakers and millworkers operate a number
of machines, including power saws, planers, joiners and shapers.
MILLMEN/CABINET MAKERS/DISPLAY BUILDERS
Cabinetmakers and millworkers work primarily indoors at a shop or plant.
They sometimes travel to work sites to install projects. They spend
a great deal of time standing, lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling
and balancing.
