Local Union 81 volunteers give back to the community to the "extreme"

Extreme Makeover - Erie, PA

More than 2000 people packed both sides of East 21st Street in Erie to welcome Clara Ward and her family to the new home built by the crew of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".

Local Union 81 carpenter members volunteered along with 1000 other volunteers to help with the week long project of demolishing the old house: a run down building with a leaky roof, faulty sewer line and sagging porch. In little over 100 hours the volunteers built a new two bedroom, four bathroom house, with two kitchens for the Youth and Development Family Center, which was founded by Ms. Ward to serve abused and neglected children.
