CARPENTER/HEAVY HIGHWAY
What do Heavy Highway workers do?
Heavy highway construction workers build and assemble forms and
their components for concrete. Some types of projects include:
bridges, retaining walls, tunnels, subways, drainage structures,
hydroelectric development, lock, dams and sewage treatment projects.
Heavy highway construction workers read blueprints and sketches,
layout structures, cut materials with power and hand tools, rig
and place forms and materials. They assemble forms by hand with
nails, bolts and arc welding processes.
CARPENTER/HEAVY HIGHWAY
Heavy highway work requires hard, physical work in all kinds of
weather. The majority of work is outdoors and the terrain of the
construction site may be rough and uneven. Work may be done on
the ground, in trenches, in confined spaces, or at significant
heights.
