What do floorlayers do?

Floorlayers handle the installation and replacement of carpeting, hardwood flooring, tile, linoleum, artificial turf and running track in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

Floorlayers interpret blueprints and architectural sketches to plan layouts of floor covering installations. They also remove obstacles to prepare foundation surfaces and install the covering on wood, concrete, metal or other sub-flooring.
Floorlayers specialize in geometric designs, often requiring the installation of inlaid pieces.

Working Conditions

FLOOR LAYERS
Floorlayers usually work in crews of two or more since it takes teamwork to roll and align carpeting and achieve tight fits. Most of the work is indoors, except for the installation of indoor-outdoor carpets. Since most of the work is done at the floor level, the floorlayer is required to stoop, bend or kneel most of the time.
